Best Tanzania Summertime Places

6 Best Summertime Places to Visit Near Tanzania

Summertime vacations in and around Tanzania are life-changing experiences. The stunning environment and culture offer numerous activities. From relaxing to educational to physically challenging, you’ll find everything you could possibly want to do when you’re here.

Whether visiting Tanzania in June, July, or August, you’ll get excellent weather, outstanding scenery, and extraordinary wildlife, creating daily once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.

June brings in dry weather after the rainy season has ended, and the savannas are turning green to yellow as the wildebeest migration begins. July and August offer exciting game drives and safari excursions, and the Great Migration is further along in the treacherous trip across the Mara River into Kenya. And you get to see it all firsthand and close up.

Flock to the northern safari circuit (Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, and Serengeti), sit by the beach in Zanzibar, or start your climb up Mt. Kilimanjaro this summer because the views are fantastic no matter where you are.

At Zara Tours, we know our landscape and what Tanzania has to offer, and we’re ready to share it all with you. Below are our six favorite summertime Tanzania destinations.

Mount Kilimanjaro

With an altitude of 5,895 meters above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, and one of the largest volcanoes ever to burst through the Earth’s crust. This mountain is part of Kilimanjaro National Park, which exists to preserve its outstanding scenic features and flora and fauna.

The area around the mountain has been declared a national park with an area of 756 km2. The area can be climbed by any prepared trekker with the assistance of a guide and porters. Several climbing trails pass through the lush rainforest before reaching heather and open moorland where giant lobelia and colossal cactus-like plants grow.

The park has six hiking access routes through the Kilimanjaro forest reserve; Marangu, Mweka, Umbwe, Machame, Shira, and Rongai.

This peak is one of the most popular Tanzania tourist attractions amongst adventure enthusiasts as it is the home of some of the most arduous hiking and trekking trails.

Serengeti National Park

June is peak safari time in Serengeti National Park, thanks to dry, sunny weather and temperatures in the 70s. It’s also the best month to see the Great Migration when enormous herds of wildebeest, gazelles, and zebras migrate across the plains in search of food, water, and breeding grounds. Witnessing their challenging hurdle across the crocodile-infested Mara and Grumeti rivers is a sobering—but essential—safari experience.

Choose a comfortable camp centrally located within the park (like Travelers’ Choice Award winner Ang’ata Camp) so guides can easily take you in any direction on your daily game drives. Some options, like Ubuntu Migration Camp, pack up and relocate throughout the season to stay close to the action.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Ngorongoro Conservation Area is one of the most famous Tanzania tourist places, well known and visited for its Big 5 Game (lions, leopards, rhinoceroses, elephants, and cape buffalo). If you want to add a dash of adventure to your Tanzania trip, this should definitely be on your to-do list. You’ll not only see impressive wildlife, but you may witness the volcanic Ngorongoro Crater and an extensive migration of wildebeests and zebras.

Tarangire National Park

Located in the Manyara region, Tarangire National Park is the sixth-largest national park in Tanzania. Though it is not as popular as its counterparts like Serengeti and Ngorongoro, it is considered one of the top places to visit in Tanzania, where one can encounter African variants of animals like elephants, lions, zebras, and more.

Sprawling over 5,000 square kilometers, this wildlife area boasts over 350 species of birds and reptiles, more than 2,000 species of plants, and extensive wildlife, which are a treat to watch.

This game reserve is also well equipped with furnished lodges for tourists to spend a night amidst the reserve’s wilderness- a truly magnificent event.

Its findings have proven an invaluable source of information to biologists in the field of human evolution over the past two million years.

Zanzibar Island

Zanzibar Island is well known as Spice Island due to the farming and processing of aromatic spices like cloves, turmeric, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemongrass, and black pepper. Visit spice plantations to learn about the process and history of these crops and their medicinal and culinary uses.
