BEST OF MKOMAZI AND UMBA RESERVE

This safari features the New and popular Northern Circuit game parks.  This safari runs with special discounted offers during the April and May departures.  With the Best of Mkomazi Safari travel in custom designed 4×4 safari vehicles with open roofs for game viewing.  This is a small group seat-in-vehicle safari with a maximum of 6 travelers per vehicle, all with window seats. Traveling for 4- days, the safari includes meals, accommodation, park entry fees and visit to Mkomazi National Park, plus a teste of Umba Reserve and Tsavo.

Mkomazi is Tanzania’s newest park covering some 3,245sq km. It is located in northeast Tanzania, some 200km from Arusha and 97Km from Moshi. Just south of the border with Kenya and the Kenyan Tsavo National Park. (Between these two parks there is what we call Mkomazi & Tsavo ecosystem and a migration of elephants, gemsboks (oryxes), various antelopes and zebras). Northwest we have Kilimanjaro and to the south the Pare and Usambara Mountains. Since 1989 the government together with wildlife experts have worked to restore healthy numbers of game to the park.

Given the geography of the area, Mkomazi exhibits a unique habitat for over 75 species of mammals such as the fringe-eared Oryx, lesser kudu and over 400 species of birds. The Park is a spectacular wilderness and a refuge for some species that are threatened with extinction such as the black rhinoceros and the African wild dogs. The purpose of the park is to provide the best possible protection for this and other species of game together with the adjacent Umba reserve. In the Mkomazi park also lives the rare generuk, also known as giraffe, because of its long neck, with which this animal is able to reach the small leaves of prickly bushes and trees standing on its hind legs.
